So we'll see if it gets published. I wonder how much they will change it if they do accept it. I won't know until October or something, then they announce the winner in March 2012. The winner gets $5,000. The 2 runner ups get $1000.

The Beautician

I'm Erma! When I was four years old my younger sister La La and I loved to play with each other. She was always willing to do whatever I told her to do. We had the prettiest blonde hair, cut to the middle of our backs with bangs. Sometimes your bangs can get a little long. Then it would get harder and harder to see. I guess when you start running into walls it's time for a haircut.

It was always fun going to the salon. you get to ride in the chair that take you up in the hight forest where you can see all of your land as a princess. then having a shield draped over you so the hair falling down wouldn't make you itchy. Because honestly, what kind of a princess wants to be itchy? then when you are done you are the most beautiful princess of all. Everyone tells you so!

My mom decided one day that La La and I needed haircuts. She made the mistake of saying that out loud. I was so excited!! I could do it. I had been to the salon many times with my siblings. I've always wanted to make someone else a princess.

I went to the drawer where I knew the scissors were kept. my mom was busy making bread. We'd be done before she even knew we were gone. So we went to the bathroom. The beautician was in business. I went ahead and gave La La and I a new haircut. I started with La La to make sure I was doing it right. I thought the long hair was beautiful, but running into walls wasn't. so I started with the bangs. I shortened them. Not all the way though. I decided about the width of my fingers was plenty long. They wouldn't be in my way for sure! That wasn't so bad. She looked like a beautiful princess. So I was finished with my hair. Carefully looking in the mirror so I didn't mess it up! What a masterpiece I had made!! We were the most beautiful princesses in the land!

After I was done my mom found us. Boy was I in trouble! I just knew I was by the look on my mom's face. She didn't have to say anything to me I just started crying. My mom left the bathroom and came back with the camera. She snapped a picture of us! La La was all smiles and I was crying my eyes out. I don't think I really got in trouble, because how do you get mad at a princess? So for the next few months I was reminded of what I did... in pictures!

The Dixonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17536633006041743365noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5320758437752729834.post-84123894691469005522011-03-21T08:23:00.002-06:002011-03-21T08:28:09.495-06:00VacationSo 4 more days and we are headed to Washington!! Let me tell you we are all excited. This will be the first vacation we are going on that it's not entirely to visit family. We have planned prepared and saved. We've thought about the rain and it's going to be fun. Hopefully we have a few clear days.

We got our new camera and are excited to use it!! Hopefully I'll get to posting pics. I've really been bad at that. Now on to cleaning the house and packing to get ready. It's going to be fun!The Dixonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17536633006041743365noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5320758437752729834.post-76806429140345998982011-01-29T15:08:00.003-07:002011-01-29T15:26:35.336-07:00Wow... If only I was a good blogger! What have we done recently? Well Chris and I (mostly Chris) have taken up crocheting. I made hats and a couple of ties. He has made several different types of hats and slippers. The kids love their hats and he enjoys it. I don't find the time to sit and do it. I guess I could, but oh well. We love to do Crafty Wooden Projects. I got a Cricut this last year and we have been crafting away! We made a game. We have made maden block projects, who my friend Kelly is now reaping the benefits. I got to see my friend Kelly have a baby. That was the coolest thing ever! I always thought that it was the closest to God you can get right now without praying, etc. But wow! I'm usually on the other end pushing. What a wonderful blessing to have Kelly in my life and to be able to help her through that while her husband was overseas.
I have now been the Primary President for almost a year. What a chaotic life. I never think Sunday is going to go well and it always seems to do fine. I hope the kids are listening and then I get papers from them or hear their testimonies on Sunday.

Chris is working for DIRECTV and has his awesome hobbies on the side!! He is such a help with the kids. I realized the other day. I don't think I've bathed Rylee or Zoi for the last 6 months. I don't even ask, he just does! Every Tuesday and Wednesday he lets me go to Majerle and Stockton's class and help at school. If I have daycare kids he watches them. He is the best husband I could ever ask for!! Chris is now the new cubmaster for our ward. He is excited and willing to do anything!!

Majerle is in the third grade and loves it. She has Mrs. Long who is a wonderful teacher. She gets to be involved in the wax museum this year. Majerle is going to be Susan B. Anthony. She is such a happy person. She loves to sing and dance. We are trying to think of an activity to put her in. Not sports she says.

Stockton is so energetic. He is in Mrs. Hood's 1st grade class. He loves it! He is going to do flag football this year because he will be 7!! He is very coordinated. He is starting to read really well if he would just slow down... Sometimes it just doesn't fit in his busy little life.

Zoi is full of energy too. She loves Diego, Dora and Strawberry Shortcake. She loves to be outside and tease her siblings. She loves to draw all over everything! And I mean everything... carpets, walls, drawers, doors, herself and her clothing. She likes to help when mom has the patience for her.

Rylee is such a sweetie. She is learning to fold her arms and give lots of hugs. She laughs and sings Diego all the time. She climbs up everything and gets into most things. She loves to tote around any baby doll she can find.

We recently found a website that has a bunch of do-it-yourself projects... that I hope to accomplish some this summer!! We get to go to Seattle for Spring Break this year!! WOO HOO!! We can't wait. I'm going to make back seat pockets for the kids to put their stuff in. I'd better get on that!!

I'll post some pics later... I hope. The Dixonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17536633006041743365noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5320758437752729834.post-35910336301297294242010-11-23T08:44:00.001-07:002010-11-23T08:45:29.631-07:00SilhouetteWouldn't that just be cool to win a silhouette machine... really? The Dixonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17536633006041743365noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5320758437752729834.post-49471881010427675742010-09-08T16:03:00.002-06:002010-09-08T16:06:09.372-06:00My brother RyanSo I haven't been able to get on blogger for a long time!! I remember growing up and having my mom make us green shamrock pancakes. It was so much fun. Of course we thought they were going to be gross... they were green. But they always tasted like pancakes. The kids class pictures were this day. The picture packet said the pictures would turn out better if your child didn't wear green. HELLO!!! Who doesn't wear green on this holiday!! So, of course, I send my children in green shirts. IT'S FUN!! This year I thought I would be a cool mom and go all out. We had shamrock pancakes for breakfast and I put some cool things in their lunch boxes. They had green and white chocolate dipped pretzels and oreos, Sprite, french onion Sun chips (the package was green) and a fruit snack... it had buzz lightyear on it. They also had to have the golden part, so I put in a Twinkie and a cut up golden delicious apple. For snack time we had green rice crispy treats. The kids chowed those down. For dinner we had worm casserole (died green), green jello jigglers, green beans, lima beans, green lime kool-aid and sprite. The kids enjoyed it (and so did Chris and I).

The Dixonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17536633006041743365noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5320758437752729834.post-19401062141300962042010-03-20T14:32:00.004-06:002010-03-20T15:37:30.813-06:00Stockton's BirthdayStockton's Cake

Letter from the Jedi Council

On their Jedi Quest

Stockton and his friends

Awesome Jedi Decor

So last Saturday I had 8 little 6 year old boys at Stockton's birthday party. We had to do a Star Wars The Clone Wars party. We had fun decorating. The cake was made out of.... twinkies. Boys: Will, Rhyss, Dallas, Reid, Gavin, Ty, Korbin and of course, Stockton. We had the boys show up and they played the wii for a few minutes. After the wii everyone was there so we had Papa Murphy's Pizza and soda. Then we played a game where they had to keep a balloon off the floor with a light saber. Yes it was harder than it sounded. But the boys had fun. Then they had a scavenger hunt. They read a letter from the Jedi Council that Chris had made up. Then all the clues were written like they were from Master Yoda. So it took them a minute to figure out where to go. At the end of the hunt was their gift bags from the party, that they got to take home. Then it was time to open presents. When that rowdiness was done they had cake. Really only about 3 or 4 of them actually ate the cake... I guess twinkies with purple and blue frosting isn't that appealing to a 6 year old. Then it was time for everyone to leave... I was ready to take a nap. During the party Majerle and Zoi and Daddy got to go on a date. They went to Carl's Jr and played on the toys. Then they went to Old Navy and got sunglasses. Of course, they also went to the dollar store and got something. I'm pretty sure Stockton and his friends had fun. Will came up to me after they got their gift bags and said, "Sis. Dixon, this is the best birthday party ever!"The Dixonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17536633006041743365noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5320758437752729834.post-44094540033944922432010-03-16T08:01:00.003-06:002010-03-16T08:36:07.858-06:00Zoi's Cat Scan

If you know Zoi at all, the girl doesn't stop! Ever! She hasn't taken naps since she was one, except when I desperately need one and we lay down together. She climbs up everything and is very independent. Yesterday, despite my efforts to keep her down, she climbed up on the table. Which she does on occasion, okay every day. She fell this time and hit her head. She didn't get a bumb, just a bruise. I checked to see if her eyes were dialating, because she kept saying she was cold and tired, and her head hurt. She was okay so I let her fall asleep. She slept about 1 1/2 hrs with me walking by every fifteen minutes to bump her to make sure she opened her eyes quick or moved. Chris gets home, I have dinner ready, and she throws up. Chris went and put her in the bath. She doesn't like puke on her... who does. So he starts feeding the kids really quick as I call the doctor. Dr. Armijo calls me back and says, "You need to take her up now." I just start crying. So we call Gina Mills and she takes Majerle and Stockton. Chris gave Zoi a blessing on the way up. We take Zoi and Rylee up to the hospital. On the way Zoi starts throwing up two more times. We get to the hospital and have to take Rylee's other blanket in so Zoi can have a blanket. Before she checks in she informs us that she farted. Thanks. At least the guy that was checking us in got a laugh. She gets checked in and does really well until they pull the curtain in the room shut so we can have privacy. She didn't like that. She starts crying. I try to put the blanket around her, but she doesn't like it because it's Rylee's. So Chris snuggles her close. She sees the sink and has to wash her hands twice, of course. Then we figure out there's a tv and try to find something for Zoi to watch at eight o'clock at night. Wasn't easy. Finally a nurse practitioner checked her out and said just because it was on the side of her head and she's been throwing up they need to do a cat scan. I'm trying to hold it together. Then I take her back and Chris stays with Rylee. While we are walking away she is saying, "Where's my daddy?" I let her know we need to take a picture and we'll see daddy and Rylee in a minute. So we walk to the cat scan room. I lay her on the bed and they give her a teddy bear. She grabs it quick and holds onto it. Then the lady takes the sheet and wraps it over her from side to side. She then puts the shield blanket on. I almost lost it. My eyes started filling up, but I knew I had to keep it together. I also get a shield on because I got to hold her head still. She starts to cry and I told her this won't take long, we are just taking a picture. I held her face and started to count. She moved a little the first time, so I think that's why they sent her through again. It only took about 34 seconds. They said it would take 1/2 an hour for the results. Then we went back to the room with daddy and Rylee. She sat with dad while I nursed Rylee. Finally the nurse practitioner came in and gave her a nausea pill. Then they finally came in and said there were no fractures and she was okay..... whew! So they discharged us and we went back to the van.... that smelled like puke. Thankfully our little girl was coming home and okay... I can handle the puke smell until it gets cleaned out, TODAY!!

When school had gotten out yesterday Majerle came home and said she got a part in the "Little Red Hen" play that they are doing in April!! She's so excited to be a farmer. We are going to Joann's Fabric and I am going to make her a very cute farmer skirt!!

The Dixonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17536633006041743365noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5320758437752729834.post-65321133985493891402010-02-19T08:38:00.002-07:002010-02-19T09:18:36.884-07:00Virgin Chicken Marsala

Okay so I've had a lot of requests for this recipe... yum. Since you aren't checking my blog every week for the new recipe I put on... Oh wait... I haven't done that in awhile... HA HA. JK. So here is the recipe.
I'll cut this down, I triple it for my family size. I also had the left overs on a hoagie bun and toasted it with Provolone Cheese. YUM!! I do it virgin because I don't cook with Alcohol. A lot of people say it cooks out, but my family has just chosen not to help the alcohol industry.

Virgin Chicken Marsala

1/4 c flour

1/2 tsp Italian seasoning

1/8 tsp salt

1/8 tsp pepper

4 boneless, skinless chicken breast cut into strips (I use (1) 3 lb bag of chicken thawed(cut in strips))

2 c sliced mushrooms (we freeze our mushrooms so I use a quart size bag of sliced mushrooms)

1/4 c green onion (again we freeze our onions so I use 1 c frozen onion (minced) Stockton eats it better)

3 T butter

1/2 c chicken broth

Cooked spaghetti noodles

Cooked spaghetti sauce (we use Hunts)

In a shallow bowl stir together flour, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper. Place each breast or strip of chicken into flour mixture. Shake off excess flour. It just needs to lightly coat it. In a large skillet cook mushrooms and onion in 1 T butter. Remove from skillet. In the same skillet cook chicken in the remaining butter. (Last time I made this I cooked it in a little chicken broth instead. Fabulous! Not much, just so it wouldn't burn on pan.) Turning to brown evenly. (I have to cook it all the way through or it grosses me out! And it's not safe.) While the chicken is cooking start the spaghetti and sauce separately. (Don't cook too much spaghetti, it just goes under the chicken mixture on your plate.) Add the mushrooms and onions back in skillet. Bring mixture to a boil. (you don't want this soupy, but sometime you need to add a little more or less chicken broth.) Simmer 2 min. When finished place spaghetti on plate, then sauce, then chicken mixture. We also make broccoli to compliment the meal. So yummy!!
The Dixonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17536633006041743365noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5320758437752729834.post-31374721595432913152010-02-03T14:38:00.002-07:002010-02-03T15:17:03.086-07:00So I haven't posted in a long time. What to say... I find it hard what to say on Facebook. The new and final season of LOST has begun. Sad, but excited. Zoi is trying to potty train... She doesn't like to keep her diaper on, but won't consistently go in the toilet. So we are going to try the candy as a reward for pottying in the toilet... we'll see if that works. Her favorite movies right now are Scooby Doo and Hotel for Dogs (the puppy show). I am so sick of those shows. Majerle is doing well in her rocket math. She is on letter R. Stockton is doing well in school, but tries to hurry on his homework and needs to slow down. He loves going outside and wants to go out every day even if it's cold. Rylee will be 3 months old on Saturday... crazy how time flies. She is a very smiley baby and wants to sit up so bad... she hasn't even rolled over yet. I wouldn't be surprised if she walks before Zoi did (8 months). When I get microsoft word back on my computer I am going to finish my cookbook I've been making!! It will recipes we all love and will have pics of everything too. Can't wait!! I'm sure it will continue to be a work in progress, because one day a week will be NEW RECIPE week. The kids are going to start taking turns cooking too. My goal is to get organized this year. We'll see how well that works. Not very organized if you ask me. I'm working on clutter too. Can't stand it, but with kids sometimes it just happens. I've tried chore charts, lists, things that can be organized, etc... if you know of anything that works for you let me know... maybe I can try it. I am getting a computer armoire... that will help with the computer clutter. I really just need to start filing the papers I have. I made granola bars the other day. I think I'm going to try a peanut butter coating next time. Once I've perfected it, maybe I'll post the recipe. Totally haven't kept up on my recipe of the week... Yeah... I don't have time to post that. I can't keep up with my house any more... Zoi is too quick to dump toys out. Got my living room clean the other day and before I could get the vacuum out she had dumped the basket of baby toys... AAARRRGGGG!!! Stockton is turning 6 in March. He has just realized there is such a thing as scouts. He can't wait until he is old enough to join. Majerle has gotten weaving looms for Christmas and just loves to try things out. She has made a few hot pads. Rylee hadn't pooped for 3 days. Then she decided it was time. I was giving Zoi a bath and Chris said I think Rylee pooped. It was up her back, front, sides all the way up to her armpits. Camera isn't working, but I'm sure she'll do it again. At least it's still breastmilk poop!! gotta love it!!The Dixonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17536633006041743365noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5320758437752729834.post-70856386813626217222009-10-21T11:14:00.002-06:002009-10-21T11:57:30.396-06:00The Dixonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17536633006041743365noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5320758437752729834.post-54105596016890636652009-09-28T13:11:00.004-06:002009-09-28T13:35:46.342-06:00Baptism

Our beautiful family

So I finally found my cord to my camera. Sometimes it's just not worth blogging unless you have pictures to add. This is well worth the blog. I'm glad the cord was found.

M was baptized on Saturday the 26th of Sept. On her birthday! It just happened to be the stake baptism day. I was able to make her confirmation dress. The dress she was baptized in me, my 3 sisters, and so far my 4 nieces have worn it.

She was so nervous when she went in to get her interview. But when it was done she said, "That wasn't that bad." Then she said she was nervous about her baptism because she didn't know how long she'd be under the water. It wasn't that bad either. She was so wonderful. Chris was the one who got to baptize and confirm her. When she came out of the water and I was helping her get changed she was crying so hard. I hugged and kissed her and said it was okay and asked what was wrong. She said, "I'm just so happy." Then when she was confirmed she cried through the prayer. What a spiritual young woman I have. It was a wonderful day.

Later that night I opened her window to let some air in when they went to bed. I usually shut the window. She said, "I'm not scared mom, You know why? Life just gets going and.... well you all know. So S has graduated from Preschool and is now ready to start Kindergarten. Z is getting into everything and M is almost done with the first grade!!!

Last month was crazy. I had to speak in our spanish branch... in spanish. For those that don't know me very well. I DON'T SPEAK SPANISH! So with Chris' help I read my talk. I had most of it traslated from a talk in the Liahona. Then Chris helped me translate my intro and my testimony. I read the whole thing in spanish. I had everyone listening... I guess that was good. But I was way nervous. Chris said I did a good job, but he has to say that. We have also sang in the spanish branch. Let me tell you that singing is way easier in spanish that speaking it.

S favorite word in my talk was posibilidades. Yes that means possibilities. He's been paying attention to the stupid commercials on tv. One week it was "mom we need to get Egglands best eggs, because they are the best egg." Then the next week it was "Mom we need possibilities." It took me longer to figure out what that was. It is campbles soup.. MMM good, possibilities. Their jingle.

I also did S preschool graduation. I made them caps and a little scrapbook. They sang a few songs, did the pledge of allegiance and told what they learn. It was very cute overall.

The big news with Chris and I if you haven't already heard... we are having another baby. I am 13 weeks along and we are NOT going to find out what this one is! This should be fun. Like my friend Kat said... it's not like it's going to change the sex of it if you do find out. True. We thought that this would be fun.

If it's a boy it will be Jonas. For a girl... Chris likes Rylee. I don't know if I like that, but I'm getting use to it. On the girl name the middle name has to rhyme with M and Z middle name. M is Elise and Z is Patreece. I didn't realize they rhymed until my cousin Denise said they rhyme. So if it's a girl it has to rhyme. Any ideas? We have thought of Janice. So we are excited. S says he wants a girl, but always talks about his brother Jonas. The Dixonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17536633006041743365noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5320758437752729834.post-7599651686579396402009-03-02T08:29:00.003-07:002009-03-02T08:48:01.746-07:00Last week's fun

Majerle had a program at school on civil rights. We subbed for primary today. We were called as we were walking out the door. I brought those treats. Three of the kids got the website so they could make them. One of them even tried to bribe me with a plate of chocolate chip cookies for trade. Funny kids. I'll keep them up a little longer just in case anyone didn't get it.

I also found the coolest website: bkyi.com I was asked to speak in the Spanish Group in April. Many of you should know I don't speak Spanish. So I'm freaking out and looked all over for free spanish lessons. This website is so cool. I went to the Spanish ward today and heard some of the words I learned. I'm just going to write my talk. Chris will translate it and I will read it. There will be no elaboration. But I am still going to try to learn Spanish. The home page shows the new things in the last 2 weeks then up at the top they are categorized. On valentine's day I made these and chocolate covered strawberries for Chris and the kids. They were so yummy we made them again. So as a request from Kat I put the recipe on. Enjoy gaining weight with these scrumptuous treats. :)

I just finished the second book I'm reading by Ally Carter. The third comes out in June. The first is I'd tell you I love you but then I'd have to kill you. The second is Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy. The third is Don't Judge a girl by her Cover. Good books if you ever want something to read.
The Dixonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17536633006041743365noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5320758437752729834.post-58389059095276039692009-02-15T20:04:00.001-07:002009-02-15T20:08:14.458-07:002008 Chevy Uplander or McCloud

The Dixonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17536633006041743365noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5320758437752729834.post-89630473192941032852009-02-11T20:37:00.003-07:002009-02-11T20:41:59.917-07:00New Mini Van!!!!We just got done buying a brand new mini van!!! M was a 100 year old lady on her 100th day of school. Z learned how to unzip her pj's. S and M got a hold of the camera. M made a lego man and put him in the crib so he was safe. Z loves the rocker and was reading. S got bored one day and decided to go sledding in our back yard in the trampoline box. I'm glad my kids still have imaginations.

The Dixonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17536633006041743365noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5320758437752729834.post-41097520466209625432009-02-05T13:02:00.003-07:002009-02-05T13:07:58.847-07:00Okay so I'm slacking a lot this week. I have gotten nothing done in my house. What's new. I'll have to download some pics tomorrow when I actually have time... or maybe Saturday. The recipe was up extra long this week. Z found the zipper to her pj's this week. It was fun trying to keep them on her. At least she didn't pull a M and strip for the whole night. M made a lego man and put him in Z crib so he didn't get ruined. S took the camera and took pics of his loving monkey. M had her 100th day of school today and dressed like an old lady. Chris found a few grey hairs this week. Last week when we actually had snow S used our trampoline box as a sled. It was very productive I guess as fun for the kids go.The Dixonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17536633006041743365noreply@blogger.com1
